Love Is In The Air Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Love is in the Air blog hop hosted by Paulette from Around the Block with scrapalette! You should have arrived here from Brenda.

If you didn't, you can go to Around the Block with scrapalette, start at the beginning of the hop and enter to win blog candy. Our projects are all about love and Valentine's Day.

My project is a Be My Valentine card.

I racked my brain trying to come up with a great idea that wasn't too involved and finally hit upon this.
"Don't be Koi" <- Get it? Koi = Coy?

Lovely play on words don't you think? hehe. I couldn't resist once I hit on this. My kids groaned, but it's Valentine's - it's supposed to be sappy! {Yes, I know, my wit is astounding!}
(inside: Be My Valentine)
I really liked how the fish, when put together just so, frame a heart shape themselves. I added the heart underneath to help guide the eye and dress it up a bit more.

Unfortunately, I didn't get a lot of pictures as I was cutting and assembling this card and I forgot to get a shot of the inside.

This is a standard A2 (4.25"x5.5") card in pale pink with the background cuts from Elegant Edges in red and white. The font "Don't be Koi" is from Paper Lace. {Did you know it had a font!?? Because I did not until a friend at a recent crop mentioned it - I love it!} The pink heart is from George, and the fish - Koi fish - are from Pagoda.

Here is a closeup of the Koi fish - I cut them out of some glitter paper I bought at Michael's. My poor Cricut - I should have used the deep cut blade, but the paper wasn't THAT thick - I thought. However, I made it work. I did a touch of Stickles on the red hearts and used a white Gel Pen on the wording to make it pop a bit more and added touches of the gel pen around the matting and the red hearts. The gel pen really does add a little more dimension to a project when you use it for highlights. The edges of the two mats and the card base are inked with the Cat's Eye Chalks in red and dark brown.

Leave a comment with contact information to be entered to win some Valentine's blog candy. I can't tell you what it is - it's a Surprise! I'd love it if you followed me as well, but that isn't a requirement to my blog candy. Winners have two weeks from the announcement to claim their prize. After that, it goes back into the prize bag - so check back here to see if you won!

  1. Very creative, I love your spin on words! Elegant Edges is one of my favorite carts and I love your mats from it, especially with the Stickles. I also like that font you used, I think I need to pull out my Paper Lace cartridge. I think it's great how you used so many cartridges on one card!
